Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney believes Chelsea will miss out on the Premier League title if they don’t improve their defence and goalkeeping position.
“They should be looking to challenge for the title now but I still think the goalkeeper (Robert Sanchez) and the defenders are giving away easy goals,” Deeney told http://ufabet999.app SPORT.
“They should have won 2-0 easily but ended up scoring three goals with poor finishing and I think that’s why they have to try and get into the top four now.”
“Unless they go out in January and sign a couple of players because the current defence they have is going to make them cry.”
Chelsea have made a good start to the season under new boss Enzo Maresca, with the Blues currently third in the league and top of the Conference League. However, they have kept just five clean sheets in 19 games across all competitions.
Chelsea beat Leicester City 2-1 on Saturday to move into third place in the table, level on points with Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion and just one point behind second-placed Manchester City.
Since Todd Boehly took over, the Blues have been in a dismal decline, finishing 12th and 6th in the last two seasons, but under Enzo Maresca their results have improved.
Chelsea have kept just two clean sheets in 12 league games, with Sanchez in particular heavily criticised after a string of errors.
